it's not a secret that cut flowers can be used to brighten up a space, but they can be so expensive. I have a beautiful floral arrangement on my table permanently, but who has $50 - $100 a week to devote to one? Not this girl.
Fortunately, you don't have to pay a lot of money for beautiful centerpieces. You can create your own arrangement of flowers at your local grocery store!
think it's too complicated? You don't have a good eye for things like that? Don't worry - I spent the afternoon with Richelle Stewart of flower Pots and she shared a few tips to help you get started.
what to buy
Stewart and I went to Trader Joe to choose flowers for our centerpiece, but you can go to any grocery store or market near you who sells flowers.
when we walked in there were dozens of nice options to choose, and I wanted them all.
Fortunately, Stewart knew where to start - with the Greens.
I love you eucalyptus and Trader Joe had a lot of it! We bought also some other products filling small as baby breath.
then we chose the blooms.
'Select flowers that close a little if you want it to last longer,' suggests Stewart.
She suggested also several kinds of flowers of focal point, "you don't want to have all the same kind, or you won't get a lot of form or variety to your scheme."
, we chose the carnations, tulips and a stem of orchids.
prepare for the Arrangement
to prepare the flowers, you should start by cutting the ends. Stewart explains flowers absorb water better freshly cut stems. You don't need to cut too, because you are going to be cut at different heights while you organize. all you need is about an inch or two off the bottom.
then it is time to remove the leaves from the stem of the flower. This makes it easy to arrange the flowers and prevents them from tangling in the leaves.
when choosing your vase, choose something with a large mouth. This will allow more movement and variety in your arrangement. Stewart prefers organize hand and advise to play with different ideas, until you find the one you like, but it suggests using floral foam or creating a grid with a Ribbon at the top of the vase if you are not comfortable going to the fly.
start organizing
begin your arrangement by layering in the Greens first, then the other filling products. This operation creates a base for the arrangement that the flowers will sit at.
If you are not sure how high to cut the stems, a good thing is their detention until the vase and cut them like that.
Stewart suggests varying the heights of the stems to create more interest.
be creative here; It is normal to try new things to sort the flowers. If you don't like their appearance, you can always rearrange them.
take care of your Arrangement
now that you have at your disposal to research what they way you want, it's time to show it.
"change the water every two days for a more durable arrangement," said Stewart.
it's as simple as that! We've created this room and only $17, and we had much remains to another arrangement (or two).
If you want to brighten up your space, but prefer the Greens over the blooms, try creating a terrarium or adding in some houseplants.
