I started looking into Quicken Loans, shortly after I stepped back to Detroit in London, England. While I had been away from Detroit for nearly three years, I knew that the city began to return to life and Quicken Loans has been at the forefront of its revitalization.
after studying at the London School of Economics, I thought I would find a career in economics or finance. After having applied to several jobs and sit through interviews, I decided that I wanted more work with some numbers. I didn't know what I wanted my career to look more, so I had to start at square one and understand a Plan B.
why Quicken Loans?
one of the companies I interviewed with was Quicken Loans and it was for a data analyst position. I'm a believer that everything happens for a reason, so when the post at Quicken Loans don't pan, I don't discourage, although I pass because it was not another post on its Web site that interested me.
a week after my interview with Quicken Loans, I got a phone call from my recruiter asking if I would be interested in interning with the Marketing team. I said yes, but I really thought, ' not really, unless there was an incredible opportunity. " I'm usually not a closed person, but after studying economics for so long, I would not still be one of those people who don't end up by using their major, in particular a great they really enjoyed.
the recruiter came to me with a position I couldn't refuse: an internship with Zing Quicken Loans Blog. Wait. An economy major internship with a blog on the Marketing team? You may be wondering why I would never accept that.
, when we had our first meeting, I told my recruiter the finance, economy and classes of accounting that I took, my internship in the banking sector and my time as a financial officer in my Sorority. I mentioned briefly that I kept a blog while I've lived overseas, where I wrote about cities, that I visited as well as the lessons I had learned along the way. I have always loved writing, but frankly, I never thought I could find a lucrative career in it. It was part of the reason why I studied economics instead of creative writing.
she did something no other recruiter has really does for me. She listened to everything I said, not only the experience of working there, that I had or the courses that I took. She took into account events in my life that happened at school. She listened to my interests and areas of my life that could not be put on a resume. Instead of recommending a position on the capital markets or do not follow up after the last position has failed, she looked for a perfect fit, not just any adjustment.
I interviewed with the Blog of Zing and took the opportunity to write for them. I was able to write about travel, finance, money, mortgage and way of life. I can research and learn more, on a wide range of topics, every day. I get to be part of the team of social media, where innovation and change are everywhere. I am paid to do some of the things I love the most: write about finance and money.
my internship ends soon and although I am sad to close this chapter, I get to start a new one with QLCredit. I work full-time as a copywriter while contributing to the Blog Zing.
why Detroit?
, I considered what to do what my friends from high school is and spend in New York City or current continuous. I considered also do this as my friends from University it did, which was the stay in London. I chose to come back to Detroit because I believe that the best days of this city are still to come, and I know I can be a part of it.
I get to work and live here because of Quicken Loans. The company, my team and my job proved to me that I made the right choice to spend at home. I love working in downtown Detroit, in front of the building, that my father had his first job at age 50 and promote a dynamic and energetic city that many people counted years ago.
, I had given up since a long time the idea of writing as a career and the writing on finance is really a dream come true. I am grateful that I found a company and a job that gives me a lot of joy. I am grateful, that I can do in a city that means a lot to me.
I miss London, friends, I met there and the friends that I have who left Detroit for other cities. Sometimes they are questioning my choice to come back. But I did not, at least not most. Because when the story of Detroit is being written, I want to be a part of it. And thanks to Quicken Loans, I can be.
