On the one hand, you're excited you just put in four years (at least) of hard work and late nights and you're about to move into a new phase in life. On the other hand, you feel anxious because you don't know what this phase has in store and you have student loans to repay.
If you are looking for your first job out of College, you've come to the right place.
quicken Loans is number one on Computerworld best places to work in the COMPUTER list, number five of the Fortune 100 Best Companies to Work For list, and the higher number of four sides place interning on Glasdeur. I sat down with Andrea Bajaj, architect of trainee to Quicken Loans program, to get some tips and tricks that will make your application stand out from the crowd and help you a bit more to this dream job.
use school resources
find jobs is the first step in the job search process.
Bajaj suggests to use the connections that you have in place through your college or University, as their internal career link or your school's career services department. Most campuses host salons of employment, which are a great way to get out and network.
"almost all schools should have a link to internal career employers who recruit on campus have accounts and can post several job openings. Our College recruitment team works closely with the career services, they know basically all of our openings as well,"said Bajaj.
If you are in a specialized area of study, see your teachers on all available positions they know of.
"If I have a niche, I am more likely to reach out to a professor who teaches at a related class for referrals," said Bajaj.
build a strong recovery
a question many graduates is what it takes to put on a RESUME.
is your high school GPA or part-time summer job, always to news? You should include after-school activities or volunteering? Do you still need a cover letter more?
bad shows that it is four main areas, you must include in your resume: education, experience of relevant work, abilities/skills and extracurricular activities.
when laying on your CV, keep relevant information.
"points that correspond to your professional experience is important. It is best to stay away from tiny tasks that were given to rather talk you as responding to phone calls or filing of paperwork - about a project, you have worked, featuring"advice Bajaj.
remember to quantify information, as appropriate. Specify if you did something on a daily, weekly or monthly basis.
the Baptist said cover letters are preferred, "It shows that you actually done your due diligence and research of society."
pay Attention to your social media
profilessocial media has changed the way we live our lives and share information. For all its benefits, there are a few drawbacks. Everything you post is visible in the world (except if your profiles are private).
"they say - if you wouldn't poster poster on a billboard with your name attached to it, think twice before posting on social media," said Bajaj.
If you don't already have a LinkedIn, consider getting an and keep it professional.
If you are looking for a job in a creative field, include the video rolls, published in writing, photography, or other relevant work in your LinkedIn summary. This will give you recruiters, a good sense of what your skills are until you come even an interview.
a last Council of LinkedIn: use a professional photo of you. One of the greatest hobbies of Bajaj is going on a LinkedIn profile and see a professional photo with your friends or background cropped out.
do not be afraid to take an internship
internship isn't a four-letter word, especially in today's workers. Many students think they need to get a job right out of school full time, but internships can be very beneficial.
, you have the opportunity to be trained by the company, to prove yourself and learn if this roll or the team is right for you. More you get to network and work with more people, when opens an opportunity full time, they are more likely to hire you to look outside the company.
the Baptist said: "if I have an opening full time in my team, with an intern who has been trained by me and who I got to know, I am more likely to convert this intern to a permanent location, that put the opportunity full time online".
start earlier application
do not wait the last minute in order to get jobs or internships.
"for full-time positions, entry-level, I would have the candidate apply two months from the time wherever they are ready to make a commitment,
' for internships, trends in recruitment 2015 showed that other companies begin their recruiting season for summer internships in the months of August/September prior. For internships of Quicken Loans, it's great to apply in this autumn before the summer period. About autumn/winter courses, the candidate must apply in June and October, respectively,
"in General, do not forget the recruitment process, from the date of the request for background check, takes about a month and a half, full" says Bajaj.
Don't Show Up too early for your Interview
once you land an interview, make sure to not show up too early. A few minutes is good, but more that it could leave you with a long wait.
the Baptist said: "once I had a candidate arise at 08:00 for a 09:00 interview.» I had not yet left the House again. For situations like this, it is better to play cool and spend time in your car. "
order to leave 15 minutes early for your interview. This will give a few extra minutes if you get lost or have to deal with traffic.
don't forget to smile
If you have a phone interview or heading to the Office for an interview in person, it is important to be yourself and smile.
'for a telephone interview, smile. We literally hear it over the phone,"said the Baptist.
If you go to an interview in person, put your game face before even getting to the office. Bajaj boards applicants to pay attention to their surroundings when walking to the destination, "...". the interview starts when you leave your car. "You never know who you might meet, your new potential collaborators could be people walking next to you.
